If you’re spending your time targetting everyone, you’re hurting your business. Learn how to find your target market, know what speaks to them most, and how to reach them best. When you meet their needs, they will flock to you..but you have to know who they are, first.
Who are you talking to anyway?
Everyone is a potential prospect. You’ve probably heard it dozens of times.
The problem is, it’s not true.
If you target anyone and everyone, you’re wasting a significant amount of time and money. And even bigger, you’re not finding the people you REALLY to join your business.
Target FEWER people. Yep. That’s right. This will help you grow your business.
I know, you might be thinking: This sounds like backward advice. Target fewer people and attract more?
Yes! You’ll attract more people AND, importantly, more of the RIGHT kind of people. More of the people that are part of your tribe. The ones that resonate with your team. That see eye to eye on the important things.
How to Find Your Target Market
Stop and think for just a moment. Imagine what your perfect customer would look like. Visualize them. Give them a name, set them in a story. Understand their fears and what keeps them up at night. Know their passions and what fuels them to get up and try again. What are their hopes and dreams? What do they volunteer their time doing? How do they spend their weekends? How old are they? Do they have kids, grandkids, love to travel, own pets?
Get to know this one imaginary PERFECT CUSTOMER. Inside and out.
Do the same with your ideal LEADER. While it’s important that they possess some good leadership qualities (or are teachable to learn some), go deeper. Go through the same mental exercise as above with your perfect customer to find your ideal leader.
Can you see them with clarity?
Pull it Together
Now pull out some attributes. Maybe these folks are young families trying to make ends meet and looking for an additional source of income that won’t take them away from their kids. Maybe they’re older folks, worried about retirement and looking for a way to avoid working until they’re 102.
Once you identify their major attributes, you’ve got yourself a target audience. NOW you know who you’re talking to. Each target audience has unique struggles, fears, hopes and things to overcome. If you KNOW and UNDERSTAND those things that move them, you will better know how you can meet those deepest needs and desires.
Taking a bit of time to visualize your PERFECT customer and IDEAL leader doesn’t exclude the rest of the world. You will still attract all sorts of people. But if you know how to find your target market, and learn how to speak to them, your business will grow…and you’ll be attracting exactly the kind of folks you want to find.
Know who you’re talking to and your business will grow.
