A Limerick That Pays You in Essential Oils?
What do limericks and essential oils have in common? We’re combining both to celebrate National Limerick Day (which is May 12th). We want to kick off SPRING with a bit of whimsical fun and give you the opportunity to win some essential oils in the process.
What is a Limerick?
If you need to brush off your elementary school education, here’s a refresher:
A limerick is a short nonsense poem consisting of five lines. Lines 1, 2 and 5 rhyme with each other, as do lines 3 and 4.
The five lines of a limerick have a specific rhythm as well: Lines 1,2,5 have 8-9 syllables each and lines 3 and 4 have five or six syllables each.
You’ve most likely got a limerick memorized without realizing you do….
Hickory Dickory Dock
The mouse ran up the clock.
The clock struck one,
The mouse ran down,
Hickory Dickory Dock.
Another pretty popular one you might recall:
There once was a man from Nantucket
Who kept all his cash in a bucket.
But his daughter named Nan,
Ran away with a man
And as for the bucket, Nantucket.
How to Enter
So get your poet brain on and come up with a limerick to help us celebrate National Limerick Day. The poem must include something about essential oils….a favorite oil you use, a favorite way to use it, a smell, whatever. However you can incorporate it into your limerick is up to you, as long as it has SOMETHING to do with essential oils. This is just for fun and totally whimsical, so we’re not going to limit your imagination here (BUT PLEASE KEEP THEM G RATED!)
You need to submit your limerick by May 10th to be considered. Please submit your limerick using the form below:
If you’re on Facebook or Instagram and want to post them online, use the hash tags: #NationalLimerickDay and #LimerickEOContest when you submit them (but you still need to submit them using this form so we can keep track of them).
We’ll give away prizes to the top adult and kid limericks (winners under age 18 can’t receive essential oils from us…it’s kinda the law…but we will send you some great nonsense prize for your efforts!) And we’ll post our favorite limericks on this blog on May 12th to celebrate National Limerick Day.
Who Can Enter
Anyone, anywhere, can enter. Unfortunately, though, we can only send prizes to folks that live in the United States or Canada.
Why National Limerick Day?
National Limerick Day is celebrated on May 12, which is Edward Lear’s birthday. Lear was an English poet who wrote a lot of limericks (and helped make them popular). Why celebrate it? Because it’s a fun silly thing to do. And this year, you could even win a free bottle of essential oil for your efforts!
Here’s a Edward Lear Limerick to Celebrate:
There was a Young Lady whose bonnet,
Came untied when the birds sate upon it;
But she said: “I don’t care!
All the birds in the air
Are welcome to sit on my bonnet!”
Okay, now it’s YOUR TURN!
Fine Print
By entering this contest, you are agreeing to allow us to use your limerick (and first name) in a blog post. (Also, we will post age of those under 18.)
We will be giving away doTERRA essential oils as the prize(s). Odds of winning depend on the number of people who enter the contest. Number of prizes will be determined by how hard you make us laugh. Winning adult (age 18+) limericks will receive a bottle of doTERRA essential oils. Winning kid (age 17 or younger) prizes will be determined based on age appropriateness of winner(s) but will be something silly and fun.
This contest is not funded by doTERRA . We just wanted to have a little fun to celebrate SPRING after such a long winter….please join us!
