Tuesday Tip Spotlight: Cardamom
Cardamom is as an expensive, aromatic cooking spice that’s used in a wide variety of dishes, but especially in Indian and Scandinavian cooking. It’s spicy flavor goes well with cinnamon and it’s related to ginger (if you are a chai tea drinker, then you’re familiar with cardamom as it’s one of the spices commonly used).
Cardamom essential oil is made by steam distilling the cardamom seeds. You cook with the oil just as you would with the ground spice, but remember that the oil will be much more potent than the spice so start slow and add to taste.
Cardamom essential oil supports digestion by applying it topically to the abdominal area. It also helps support the lungs when you need help with opening your airways. To help aid in easy breathing, rub on chest or diffuse into the air.
If you feel like your brain has had to think too much and you’re mentally exhausted, try rubbing a bit of cardamom under the nose or on the back of the neck.
